About The Service

What is Geriatric Physical Therapy?

Geriatric physical therapy is a specialized branch of rehabilitation focused on addressing the unique physical challenges that come with aging. It goes beyond standard PT by considering age-related changes in bone density, joint integrity, muscle mass, sensory perception, and cognitive function.

At New Jersey Rehab Experts, our therapists develop comprehensive, individualized care plans that consider not just the physical aspects of aging, but also the cognitive, emotional, and social components that affect overall wellbeing.

  • Seniors recovering from hip, knee, or shoulder replacement
  • Older adults experiencing balance problems or fear of falling
  • Those managing arthritis, osteoporosis, or chronic pain
  • Stroke survivors and those with neurological conditions
  • Seniors weakened after hospitalization or extended bed rest

Your Care Plan

What to Expect

A gentle, supportive approach from your first visit through lasting improvement

1

Comprehensive Senior Evaluation (60 min)

Your therapist conducts a thorough assessment of your balance, strength, mobility, gait, and fall history. We also review medications, medical conditions, and your personal goals for daily living and independence.

2

Personalized Care Plan

Based on your evaluation, we create a customized treatment plan with clear goals and realistic timelines. Treatment often begins on day one with gentle manual therapy and introductory exercises.

3

Progressive Therapy Sessions (1 to 3x/week)

Sessions gradually build strength, balance, and mobility at a pace that respects your comfort level. Your therapist monitors fatigue levels and adjusts intensity accordingly at every visit.
